Glass Matching at a Columbus Circle Landmark
Komar Stroy is providing specialized glass sourcing, precise matching and replacement at Trump International Hotel & Tower, 1 Central Park West, New York, NY 10023. The scope covers custom insulated glass units (IGUs) and spandrel glass, including the replacement of 9 IGUs across multiple floors.
The tower's bronze-toned, highly reflective facade is one of the most recognizable on Columbus Circle. Every replacement unit has to match the existing glazing in color, reflectivity and performance so the original appearance of the facade is preserved.
Identifying and Matching the Existing Glazing
The work starts with identifying the building's existing architectural glazing systems and selecting glass configurations that reproduce them. Color consistency, reflectivity, compatibility with the existing system and performance all guided the glass makeups below.
Glass Specifications
Insulated glass units (IGUs)
- 1/4 in bronze tempered glass
- 1/2 in air space
- 1/4 in Solarban R67 on Starfire tempered glass
Spandrel glass
- 1/2 in SGP laminated bronze mirror glass
The bronze lite carries the tower's signature color, while the Solarban R67 solar control low-E coating on Starfire low-iron glass helps manage solar heat gain. In the spandrel areas, the SGP (SentryGlas) ionoplast interlayer gives a stiff, strong laminate behind the bronze mirror finish, matching the reflective look of the existing spandrel glass.
Compatibility, Consistency and Installation Quality
On a landmark property, the glass itself is only part of the job. The project requires careful attention to glass compatibility, visual consistency and installation quality, so that the replaced units preserve the architectural integrity of the building and read as part of the original facade.
Project Status
This project is ongoing. Additional project photography and updates will be added as work progresses.

Frequently Asked Questions
What glass makeup is used for the IGUs at Trump International Hotel & Tower?
The replacement IGUs are 1/4 in bronze tempered glass, a 1/2 in air space and 1/4 in Solarban R67 on Starfire tempered glass, selected to match the existing facade.
What is SGP laminated spandrel glass?
Spandrel glass covers the non-vision areas of a facade, such as floor edges. SGP laminated glass uses an ionoplast interlayer that is stiffer and stronger than a standard PVB interlayer. On this project it is a bronze mirror glass, to match the reflective spandrel finish of the building.
Can you match the glass on an existing landmark facade?
Yes. We identify the existing glazing system and source glass configurations that match its color, reflectivity and performance, as on this project and at the Sofitel Hotel on West 44th Street.
