Casement Doors

Casement doors are side-hinged and swing on a multi-point locking mechanism, making them the most weathertight and most secure of the operable door types.

How Casement Doors Differ

A casement door seals by compression. Turning the handle drives locking points around the full perimeter of the leaf, pulling it tight against a continuous gasket. Sliding and folding systems seal against brush or wiper gaskets by comparison, which is adequate in most conditions but never as tight.

That makes casement the right choice for smaller openings, exposed elevations, passive-house and high-performance projects, and anywhere the air infiltration number on the specification is aggressive.

Configurations

Single-leaf doors suit standard access to a balcony, terrace, or side entrance. Double-leaf French configurations open a wider clear span, with an active and passive leaf or a fixed mullion depending on the opening. Fixed sidelights and transoms can be combined into the frame to fill a larger structural opening without moving to a sliding system.

Doors can be specified to swing inward or outward. Outward-swinging leaves preserve interior floor space and shed water more readily; inward-swinging leaves are easier to operate and clean from inside and sit better on exposed balconies where wind loading is a concern.

Materials and Glazing

Available in thermally broken aluminium and in uPVC. Aluminium carries larger leaves on slimmer sightlines and takes custom RAL and anodised finishes; uPVC delivers the strongest thermal performance per dollar with no refinishing.

Glazing runs double or triple with low-E coatings, warm-edge spacers, and argon fill. Laminated and acoustic makeups are available for security and for sites near rail corridors, highways, or flight paths.

Hardware and Thresholds

Multi-point locking is standard. Handle sets, cylinders, and finishes are selected to match the rest of the opening package. Thresholds can be flush for barrier-free access or raised where exposure demands a higher upstand.
